        "Strengthening Anguilla's Tourism through Association"
AnguillaAuctions is relaunched

Press Release: ANGUILLA, BRITISH WEST INDIES, Wednesday, 10th March, 2010

The Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association (AHTA) is proudly announcing the relaunching of its popular AnguillaAuctions program for the 2010 season.  This AHTA program, originally established in 2003, auctions lodging and dining packages and other tourism-related products and services donated by AHTA members on the Association's web site at www.anguillahta.com/AnguillaAuctions.html.  While the auction program is designed to primarily appeal to visitors to Anguilla, bidding is also open to the general public, including AHTA members and their employees.

Ms. Sherille Hughes, President of the Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association noted, "The idea behind AnguillaAuctions was originally that of Wilbert Fleming, manager of Anguilla Great House Beach Resort and a member of the AHTA Board of Directors.  It was one of the first such sites in the region and helps provide a needed source of non-dues revenue for the AHTA. It is therefore appropriate that the first auction of 2010 is a five night stay at the Anguilla Great House on fabulous Rendezvous Bay. The Association is very grateful to Will and the Anguilla Great House for his consistent support of AHTA."

Gilda Gumbs-Samuel, Membership and Events Manager of the Anquilla Hotel and Tourism Association, noted that "Anguilla lovers will be able to get some wonderful packages through our auction program. The bidding for the Anguilla Great House package closes on March 15, so there is still a little time for someone to really get a great bargain on this first auction of 2010. Also currently being auctioned on the AHTA site is a 'Dinner for 2' at Ripples in Sandy Ground, where Glendon Carty, 2009 Taste of the Caribbean Chef of the Year, serves as Executive Chef."

In the coming weeks and months, the AHTA has plans to auction additional hotel and villa stays and dining packages, and possibly other services as well.  “We already have commitments from other AHTA members for some dining and lodging packages and expect the auctions to generate real excitement among people who love to visit Anguilla", stated Ms. Samuel. "We are grateful to our members for their renewed support of the auction program, which is a great marketing tool both for our members and Anguilla and also raises much needed funds for the Association and its work in tourism and tourism education."

The Anguilla Hotel and Tourism Association (AHTA) is the largest and oldest trade association on Anguilla. Representing more than 160 local and regional businesses from the hotel, restaurant and allied sectors, the AHTA has been Anguilla’s leading tourism industry advocate since 1981.
